Macbeth by Bell Shakespeare

Season 2026

  • Event starts
    27 October 2026
Description

Shakespeare’s Macbeth comes to life in a powerful new production from Bell Shakespeare, bringing one of theatre’s most famous tragedies to the stage. This intense retelling follows Macbeth, a respected Scottish general, whose life begins to unravel after a chilling encounter with three Weird Sisters who predict he will one day become king.

At first, the prophecy seems impossible to ignore. When Macbeth shares it with his wife, Lady Macbeth, ambition quickly takes hold. Driven by power and certainty, they make a choice that changes everything—setting off a chain of events filled with guilt, paranoia, and violence. As their actions spiral further out of control, the story becomes a gripping descent into the consequences of ambition and moral collapse.

Directed by Peter Evans and starring Anthony Taufa in the title role alongside Matilda Ridgway, this production brings a fresh, high-impact energy to Shakespeare’s dark psychological thriller. With striking design by Anna Tregloan and an atmospheric soundscape by Max Lyandvert, the staging builds tension from the first scene to the last.

Presented by Frankston Arts Centre in partnership with Bell Shakespeare for Season 2026.
