Set among sixteen acres of parkland along the Yarra River, Heide Museum of Modern Art — known simply as Heide — is one of Australia’s most important cultural destinations.

The site has a long and rich history, originally serving as a Wurundjeri gathering place before becoming a dairy farm. In 1934, it was purchased by art patrons John and Sunday Reed, who transformed it into a centre for progressive art and ideas. Heide became a home and creative space for some of Australia’s leading modernist artists, including Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, Joy Hester, John Perceval, Charles Blackman, and Danila Vassilieff. It was here that Nolan painted his famous Ned Kelly series (1946–47) in the farmhouse dining room.

Today, Heide continues to honour its legacy by supporting emerging and established artists and presenting a dynamic program of exhibitions, commissions, and events. Through its galleries, gardens, and sculpture park, Heide remains a place where art, history, and landscape come together.
