Celebrate the start of Christmas in Melbourne 2025 at the official launch of the city’s Christmas Festival. This free event fills Fed Square with community choirs, roving performers, and special guest appearances — a great way for teens, friends, and families to enjoy an evening in the city.
The main moment of the night is the first lighting of Melbourne’s 17.5-metre Christmas Tree. Before the countdown, you can wander the Square, enjoy the entertainment, get a photo with Santa, or simply take in the atmosphere.
When the tree lights up, the Square switches to a full light and sound show, marking the beginning of celebrations across Melbourne. Throughout December, Christmas Square will feature bright decorations, giant candy canes, and on-the-hour light shows.
